The 19-year-old was scheduled to perform his hit single Forever while Rihanna was to perform her chart-topping number Disturbia at the Grammys.
Los Angeles Police declined to name the woman who made the complaint against Brown.
Police said Brown and the woman got into an argument while sitting in a parked car in the city's Hancock Park neighborhood.
